Lyrics of the song -What A Beautiful Name- by Hillsong Worship

A happy new week dear friends!!! I trust you are doing well. Welcome to another time in God’s presence. Let us pray. Dear God, thank you for today. Thank you for your loving kindness and mercies shown towards us. Blessed be your name. We ask that you speak to us today and help us to know you better as we read your words in this post. AMEN.

Welcome once again! Over the past weeks in the series on — Our great God- we looked at the awesomeness of God through His voice, His Appearance, and His hands in the first post. Then, we reminded ourselves about his mighty works in times past. Today, we will be ending the series by looking at the Names of God.

Memory Verse: Psalm 50 v15 — and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me (NIV).

The first part of our memory verse reveals that God wants us to call on him and when we do so, he assures us that he will answer us. The Holy Spirit expects us to know the different names he has so that we can call on his name in any situation we are faced with. For instance, David in Psalm 50 needed deliverance and he called upon God, the Deliverer. From Genesis to Revelation, people who had challenges called upon a unique name of God and he showed up to answer them. Let us dive right into the scriptures to identify the Bible characters that called upon a unique name of God.

DIFFERENT NAMES OF GOD

  1. EL ROI (The God who sees me). In Genesis 16 Hagar(Sarah's servant) who was carrying a child for her master Abraham, ran away from the house because she was being persecuted by Sarah. She was alone in the desert and an Angel of God visited and spoke to her. After this happened, she said in v13 “…You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”(NIV). No matter what you are going through, be assured that God sees you. Call on El-Roi today.
  2. JEHOVAH JIREH(The Lord will provide): In Gen 22 God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his only son Isaac and when Abraham was about to kill his son, an angel of God stopped him and provided a ram for him. Abraham called the place in Gen 22 v14: “…The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”(NIV). Do you have a major need, look to God to be your Jireh and be patient as he meets your need.
  3. EL ELYON(God Most High): David the worshipper and a man after God’s heart said in Psalm 7 v 17: “I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High”(NIV). Dear friend, recognize God as the Lord most high today
  4. JEHOVAH NISSI(The Lord is my Banner): The Israelites were fighting against the Amalekites and Moses had to raise up his hands so that the Israelites could win the war. In Exodus 17 v 15, he built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner(NIV).

Additionally, there were instances that God introduced his name when he appeared to his children. Some of these instances include:

  1. EL-SHADDAI(God Almighty): Gen 17 v 1: When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless(NIV). In this situation, God introduced Himself to Abraham as God Almighty and he told Abraham of his plans to make him the father of many nations. Dear friend, God had great plans and thoughts for you (Jer 29 v11). Continue to seek him faithfully!
  2. YAHWEH(The Lord): It is derived from the Hebrew word “I AM”. In Exod 3 v 13–14: Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’(NIV). Dear friend, worship your Lord Yahweh today!!
  3. ABBA FATHER(Daddy, Father): Gal 4 v 6: “Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father”. Go to your Abba father today!

Dear reader, let us continually remember the greatness of God which he exhibits through his voice, appearance, mighty works, and even in his names. Do not forget to continue to be faithful to him. Do not forget all the great things he has done for you. Continue to call on him using his names. Join us next week as we explore more names of God.
