Hello dearest readers, I hope you had a glorious past week. I thank God for your life and I deeply want to appreciate your consistency and the time you spare to read every post. Your commitment and through the grace of the Holy Spirit of God keeps me motivated.

I was listening to a powerful preacher speak about God’s mercy and in today’s post, we are going to understand God’s mercy and the reason why we should be grateful to him at all times. Let’s explore the characteristics of God’s mercy

Characteristics of Mercy

1. It is God’s nature

Lamentations 3 v 22–23: It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. v23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness(KJV). This scripture always makes me reflect and bow down in appreciation of God’s loving-kindness. The Holy Spirit wants us to understand that who we are and who we will ever be in the future is not based on our qualifications, beauty, intelligence, righteousness, family background BUT based on his mercies. That is why he expects us to be humble and grateful to him. I love these songs Great is your mercy by Don Moen link: https://youtu.be/z1OjcZeZBYM and Bo Noo Ni by Joe Mettle link: https://youtu.be/-aaY3IOwrPQ which begins by saying “I am who I am because of you”. When you realize that whatever you are is because of God’s mercy and grace, you will not exhibit pride.

2. It is God’s way of caring for mankind

David identified this special attribute of God that is why he wrote in Psalm 8 v 3–4: 3When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you have set in place,4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? (NIV).

Glory to God for his care and love for us, that is why John 3 v 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. It was in God’s plan that even though we had sinned and fallen short, he would still show us mercy. Also Ezekiel 18 v 21–23: 21 “But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die. 22 None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live.23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? This shows the depth of care God has for mankind, he loves us because we are his creation, it is God’s wish that everyone will take advantage of his mercies and turn from their wicked ways.

Do not take his mercy for granted

We also have to note that despite the fact that God is a merciful father, we do not have to take his mercy for granted. Paul says in Romans 6 v1- 2 : What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?. God is still a righteousness Judge and he will punish anyone who takes advantage of his mercies to continue in sin. Ezekiel 18 v20: The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them(NIV).

Dear friends, I want us to always thank God for his mercies and live in humility before him. It does not pay to walk in pride but it pays to walk in humility, reference before God. Enjoy your week thanking God for being merciful to you and your family.

Thank you for reading, have a great week ahead of you.

Don’t forget to share on your status and with your friends.

I love you but God loves you best.
